Babies first solid food
So after lots of thought and opinions, we decided to start the babe's first 5 days of solids with Rice cereal before switching to oatmeal. Rice has less nutritional content than oatmeal but is easier on the tummies so we thought it best to devote just the first few days to rice before switching to oatmeal. We mixed with water because they still aren't eating a WHOLE lot of the cereal, so a lot gets tossed out and I just can't toss out my preciously pumped breast milk. So the babes still nurse 4 times a day and are supplemented with cereal at 2 out of the 4 meals. We use beechnut organic brand and sweet Hadley girl just LOVES to eat, and Jack Henry is still not so sure about it :) Here is their first experience...
They were 5 months + 1 week when we started! The books say to start solids between 4-6 months. Our babies were not showing any signs of readiness. They still sleep 12 hours a night on just breast milk. Hadley seemed interested when we eat... watching us eat and reaching out for food but neither had the physical signs of readiness. We figured we would do a couple weeks of cereal so that by 6 months they could start veggies, even though Jack Henry seems to be completely content with just my milk. Hadley is definitely the better eater of the two but Jack Henry is liking it more and more each time we try! In another week or so we will start them on pureed veggies!
Oh what a fun first!!! Jack Henry's expressions are priceless. And Hadley does look like she is loving it :)
